In March 2020, a fossil was discovered, which had great scientific importance. This 67 million year old fossil known as “WonderChicken” were birds who walked the Earth with dinosaurs.
A fossil is any preserved remains or trace of any once-living thing from a past geological age. For example, bones, shells, exoskeletons, stone imprints of animals, objects preserved in amber and DNA remnants are considered a fossil.
Tis fossil was found near the border between Belgium and the Netherlands by an amateur fossil hunter named Maarten van Dinther. The little slab contained a small and perfect skull from the oldest direct relative of modern birds ever discovered.
The 66.7-million-year-old fossil comes from the Northern Hemisphere. Such fossils include the bones of a duck-like species named which were found in 66.5-million-year-old rocks of the Antarctic Peninsula and described in 2005.
